Gemma quotes “I began my journey at Scullion LAW in July 2001 at 18 years of age not really knowing what I wanted to do with my life. It was during this time, my love for the law began and so, it continues to grow.

Through sheer determination, passion and focus I am proud to have worked my way up from an office junior to become the first female Executive Director (2016) and Head of the Conveyancing Department (2017) managing a team of 7 from the Scullion LAW office in Hamilton.

I am delighted with my accomplishments so far and grateful of the experience and opportunities I have had. I would like to share my story with you.

Throughout my time with the firm, my job role has dramatically changed and my understanding, knowledge and insight of the law has improved beyond measure. I have gained invaluable hands on experience which cannot be taught purely from books. I feel very lucky to have been able to learn and observe from others, deepening my passion and awareness for the law. My dream is to become a Solicitor.

I started as an office junior and knew very quickly that I wanted to learn and do more.

With that determination in mind, I quickly became a criminal secretary for Mr Scullion. He took me under his wing, shared his wisdom and allowed me to go to court a few times with him to witness first-hand how it all came together. There my appreciation, interest and understanding of the processes involved with criminal cases grew. I was able to learn, observe and understand the needs of a criminal client and develop my communication skills with people from all walks of lives. A very valuable key life skill. As the business grew, so did the good fortune and opportunities available to me.

My career really took off when an opportunity presented itself to move into the conveyancing team.

My role started off mainly providing secretarial assistance to one of the partners. From here, with excellent training and guidance I soon began to grow my own case load, and do transactions from beginning to end. In 2006 I became a conveyancing paralegal and over the last 10 years I have worked my way up to become Head of the Conveyancing Department, which is a great personal achievement.

I feel I have now reached the peak of my career and would love the opportunity to become the first female Partner / Director of Scullion LAW, in its 40 years existence. Thank you to everyone who has supported my throughout my journey so far. Your encouragement really means the world’
