We are excited to announce the expansion of our Family Law team, driven by strong client demand for our specialist family law services.
Since 2018, the team has consistently grown and flourished under the leadership of Executive Director and department head Judith Higson. The team’s dedication to excellence was recognised when they won Family Law Team of the Year at the Scottish Legal Awards 2022. Continuing their streak of success, they have been shortlisted for Family and Child Law Team of the Year at The Herald Law Awards of Scotland 2024.
To meet the growing demand, we have welcomed two new members: Associate Director Claire Thomas and Paralegal Carly Russell. Claire Thomas graduated from the University of Strathclyde in 2006 and qualified as a Solicitor in 2008. With a robust background in Family Law and Civil Litigation, Claire has practiced both at the Scottish Bar and in private practice. She specialises in high net-worth divorce cases, cohabitation claims, and complex residence/contact disputes.
Carly Russell, who has also joined the team, is a dedicated Family Law Paralegal. She gained her qualification in 2020 from Central Law Training Scotland (CLT) and is currently pursuing her Law Society of Scotland exams with the ambition of becoming a qualified solicitor.
“We are delighted to be joined by Associate Director Claire Thomas and Paralegal Carly Russell. Claire’s calm manner and pragmatic approach fit well with our existing team, and Carly’s dedication to the law is evident as she studies for her law degree whilst working. Both bring decades of family law experience, and we’re thrilled to have them on board,” says Head of Family Law Judith Higson.
Priding themselves on offering clients care, support, and legal advice to divorce with dignity. The team has successfully resolved 70% of cases through negotiation or mediation in the past 12 months. They offer families and loved ones positive solutions during what is often a challenging time.
